How to stay healthy while traveling

Long Flights:
  1. Make sure to get up and walk around to prevent deep leg thrombosis
  2. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids
  3. Take Echinacea to prevent colds due to re-circulating air
  4. Use beeswax-based salve to rub in nostrils to create barrier for the airborne infections and to prevent overall dryness
Motion sickness:
  1. Ginger capsules or chewable tablets
  2. Homeopathic motion sickness preparations
  3. Water with lemon
4. Rescue remedy Jetlag
  1. Take 1-5 mg of melatonin about 1 hour before your bedtime based on the new time zone
  2. Take 1 capsule of B-100 Complex and 1000 mg of vit. C in the morning
  3. Rescue remedy
Sun Exposure: While there is no doubt that sun exposure is essential to our well being (production of vitamin D, activation and de-activation of variety hormones and neurotransmitters etc.), Following precautions must be taken:
  1. Use of a natural broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF no less than 30
  2. Gradual exposure: starting with 15-30 mins at a time (especially for the sensitive individuals)
  3. Wear light clothing if prolonged exposure is anticipated
  4. Head covering is a must to prevent sun stroke
  5. Adequate consumption of water - every 30 mins or so
  6. UV protective sunglasses
  7. 25,000 IU of mixed carotenoids in combination with 400IU of vit. E was shown to prevent sunburn after 4 weeks of supplementation
  8. Consumption of antioxidants including vit. C helps to retard harmful effect of excessive sun exposure
In case of sunburn:
  1. Cool shower
  2. Aloe vera or calendula gel applied frequently (6-8 times a day)
  3. Homeopathic flurosone could be used topically if itching occurs
  4. Maintain proper hydration
  5. Consider administration of homeopathic Belladonna 30C 3 times a day or Cantharis 30 C
Digestive Health: Traveler's Constipation:
  1. Don't forget to eat your veggies
  2. Non-animal - derived digestive enzymes 1-2 capsules before each meal
  3. Drink water and lemon in the morning and 2-4 oz before your meals
  4. Don't drink anything while eating (red wine is OK)
  5. Take probiotic supplement in the morning before breakfast
  6. Take psyllium or/and flax seed meal with plenty of water first think in the morning or before bed
Traveler's diarrhea Prevention:
    1. Use grapefruit seed solution to add to water of unknown quality and/or carry portable water purifier
    2. Soak all uncooked produce in a moderately strong solution of water and limes or grapefruit seed solution
    3. Take 2 capsules of probiotic morning and night away from food
    4. Take 1-2 capsules of digestive enzymes before each meal with lemon water
Treatment:
    1. Activated charcoal 4-6 capsules 4-6 times a day
    2. 15 g of carob mixed into water or apple sauce
    3. or 1.5 g/kg for children
    4. Or apple or grapefruit pectin alone or in combination with kaolin clay or psyllium husk
    5. Take 2 capsules of probiotic supplement 3 times a day
    6. Take Goldsenseal, Oregon grape root, or Coptis 2 capsules 4 times a day, also good for prevention when travelling to underdeveloped countries. Berberine, the active ingredient in these herbs, has been found effective in the treatment of diarrhea caused by E. coli (traveler's diarrhea), Shigella dysenteriae, salmonella (food poisoning), Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica, and Vibreo cholerae (cholera)
    7. Don't eat solid foods and replace water and electrolytes.
    8. Ume plum concentrate, put a dab (1/2 kidney bean size) in water, ginger tea, or black tea; acidifies GI tract
    9. Boiled rice soup with ginger.
  Miscellaneous:
  1. Take echinacea and/or astragalus if exposed to temperature extremes.
  2. Tiger balm could be used for a lot of different situations while travelling
Insect bites
  • headaches, rub into the tamples
  • muscle aches, sprains, strains and traumas - rub vigorously into the affected area
  • ear aches - rub into the area around the ear and cover with a towel
  • sinusitis - rub into the area of maxillary and frontal sinuses and cover with a towel
  • bronchitis - rub into the back and chest, and wear a t-shirt
3. Use a natural herbal bug repellent
